A Travellerspoint blog

One more thing...

I forgot to mention in my blog yesterday that my backpack didn't arrive with me in Thailand. Yes... it's lost! The lady at the airport looked in the computer yesterday and said it was scheduled to arrive at 1:00 a.m. and that they would deliver it to my hotel. We got a call at 3:45 a.m. from the hotel desk that the airport called and said the bag is lost. The written message from the desk is hilarious. They wrote it in English and it's just funny. I kept it for a souvenir. I am optimistic at this point that it will arrive today (I hope I hope I hope). I can't get by without my running shoes/clothes & swimsuit. I luckily put a change of clothes into my carry-on. I told Venisha she may see me in these clothes for a very long time! We're off to tour Bangkok. Until next time.

I'm Here!

Well, I'm finally here in Bangkok after a very long journey. My flights went smoothly and I arrived on time. The only problem I encountered is that when I got here, I waited and waited and waited for Venisha. She never came. After I went through immigration and to baggage claim, I finally found an "arrivals" sign. Venisha's flight is delayed 6 hours! I took a bus and then a cab to our hotel. Luckily Venisha and I communicated about the hotel, so she knows where to go when she gets here. I was able to sleep about 6 hours on the flight from LA to Taiwan. The time difference is so weird. Right now it's 4:00 in the afternoon, but it's 4:00 a.m. in Minnesota. I'm supposed to be sleeping right now and I feel like I should. It's going to take me a few days to adjust. Once Venisha arrives, we'll decide on our next move. I think we may take a night train tomorrow to Nong Khai in the northeast. We can venture into Laos for a day or more from there. That's all for now! I have to rest for a bit until Venisha gets here. Later!

Bon Voyage!

Departure Day

Finally, departure day has arrived. I have been looking forward to this all summer. I have been really busy this summer, but over the last few days I have had time to run errands for the trip and pack. I think everything is ready to go. I got all my stuff into my backpack and a small backpack carry on. Dana is taking me to the airport tonight and I will be taking off at 9:30 p.m. I have a very very long flight ahead of me...20 hours total! Hopefully I'll get over the jet lag quickly. Thailand is 13 hours ahead of Minnesota, so I'm looking at a completely opposite schedule. I lose an entire day going there! I'm hoping that the hotels and hostels will be well wired for the internet so I can keep in touch. Take care & so long!

New Plan

Extra time in Thailand!

sunny

It's official... I changed my flight to leave the U.S. a week earlier. I'm now meeting Venisha in Bangkok on July 27th. I'm leaving in the evening of the 25th from Minneapolis. I fly to LA and leave for Asia early in the morning on the 26th. After a 13 hour flight, I land in Taipei, Taiwan for a 2 hour layover and then finally onto Bangkok. I'll arrive at 10:30 a.m. on the 27th. Venisha arrives at 11:50 a.m. Now that we have more time in Thailand, we are planning to explore the less touristed Northeastern part of the country. I'm hoping to stop at Khao Yai National Park where elephants, tigers and bears wander around freely. We are hoping that we will have time to go up to the border and cross into Laos to visit Vientianne. We will keep the other legs of our trip as planned. We both are on the same flight to Phuket, Thailand on August 3rd. My parents have a friend that lives in Bangkok. We may stay with him and he will be able to show us around the city and give us lots of advice on worthwhile places to visit.
That's the latest. Now starts the countdown to departure!

Possible itinerary change

Cambodia?

sunny

Today Venisha found out that her China teaching group's work visas were turned down. They can only stay in China for 30 days. That means she has to leave 6 days earlier than planned. We planned to meet in Bangkok on August 3rd. Hmmm, this could be a problem. If they are unable to get visas in the next week and a half before they leave, I may try to meet Venisha in Cambodia a week earlier than I planned to leave. We could check out Cambodia for 5 or 6 days and then start our Thailand trip on the 3rd as planned. This is just in the very early brainstorming phase. We have to wait and see what happens with the visas and I'd have to check into changing my flights around (for a "small fee" I'm sure!).
